I've seen Golden Corral's commercials on TV, and they always leave me wanting to visit the nearest one to my house and sample their cuisine. However, since I am on a tight budget, I only go out on special occasions, so when my friends wanted to visit this Golden Corral when we visited Lake Placid recently, I couldn't help but just smile in glee. The first thing I noticed when arriving here with my friends was that this place serves everything. They have a deluxe dessert bar, pizza, a wide array of meats, and other good delights. But everything is deceiving unfortunately, so after a close examination, I can honestly say that this food looked everything but healthy. The foods were fried, very oily, so if you are a health freak, I would honestly recommend you to not go here. But honestly, Golden Corral is your typical American buffet. And for only $13, who can really complain. All you can eat, and after you eat, you get clogged arteries. The food tasted good, but I honesty do not think I will come here again. If I want to go to a buffet, I think I'll hit up a Chinese one, but I would like to reiterate that they have an amazing dessert bar--which is worth visiting a second time. I highly recommend their carrot cake. Even better ifs: I think the place could be cleaner.

First & last visit to The Golden Corral! We've always seen a lot of cars outside Golden Corrals and have been curious as to why. So while we were in Lake Placid over the noon hour, we gave this place a try. Their secret? A stupendously HUGE buffet. Lots & lots of American food - it's impossible to leave this place hungry. The quality of the food is so-so. There is virtually no service - it's all do it yourself. The feel of the interior is a bit hectic, with people anxiously returning to the buffet for refills.

Even with a coupon, I can hardly tolerate this place. The only reason I go is because the kids love buffet style food and they can run around while being loud. /s/ William E. Lewis Jr, Davie, Florida

hey - it's a buffet with basic staples and poor high end offerings. But it'll fill you up at a decent price and the salad bar is OK

An all you can eat dump. If I had been driving, the car would have never made it anywhere close to the parking lot. However, I wasn't. As the car was being driven toward the parking lot by a certain relative who will remain nameless, I was asked if Golden Corral was acceptable for our dinner meal and rest stop en route to Orlando. In the attempt to be polite and avoid coming across as a picky food snob, especially to our guests who were in the car, I cheerily said, "sure," even though I never lie and I fully expected the experience to be nasty. I was not disappointed. When we walked in the door to approach the cash register to pay for the buffet meal, there was a large tarp hanging nearby with an overwhelming smell of gasoline. We paid ($10 for adults, $5 for kids) and then chose a table as far away from the gas and tarp as we could find. We sat down and could not help but notice the aroma of mildew and mold. OK. Time to get our food. In walking to the buffet area in the center of the restaurant (several buffet tables with quite a selection of foods), I noticed a pickle on the floor right in front of an employee who was leaning against the wall. I won't mention the multitude of other foods that littered the dirty carpet throughout the establishment's seating areas, such as jello, peas, green beans, (oh wait, I promised not to mention all of that . . . my second lie of the day). Anyhow, back to the buffet. The buffet is what you would expect - lots of items such as comfort food as nauseum - meat loaf, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, beans, etc. The salad area has more options than most buffets and even has some upgrades such as crumbled blue cheese. Of course they have the requisite iceberg lettuce in too-big chunks, cottage cheese, and canned peaches in light syrup. But they also had fresh strawberries, which was another redeeming characteristic. There were also a few creative options on the hot food tables as well as shrimp prepared in a variety of ways (scampi, fried, buffalo). There were three soups and all of them had been untouched for hours, with the telltale layer of thick crust on top. The tangy ribs looked really good but were overcooked, as was everything else. I started with the salad, as is my pattern when I am forced unwillingly, such as this time, to endure a buffet. On my second trip, I noticed that the employee holding up the wall was still a few feet from the pickle on the floor. Neither had moved. I filled another plate with fried okra, fried shrimp, and other delectable options staring at me from under the heat lamp and sneeze guard. The kids happily enjoyed the many options, and I must say that I like the buffet for them because I can force them to eat something other than cheese pizza and french fries and they will actually do it because there is a table full of dessert options that they see with their own eyes and serve as incentives (since they will not get any dessert unless they eat some carrots, peas, and fruit). As the kids went to the dessert table to fill their plates with their desired rewards for eating their carrots, I made my way back to the salad table to get some watermelon. The man was still leaning against the wall and I stopped to look at him more closely. What was he doing? Was he being paid to hold up the wall or stare at the pickle on the floor? Was he stunned by the sight of an endless parade of fat people filling their plates with overcooked canned food, eating a bite of each item, then pushing aside the plate to return to the buffet to fill another plate? I don't have the answer, but I was tempted to take a picture. I was curious that if I stayed and watched for a while whether I would first be able to notice his facial hair grow or if the hair of mold growth on the pickle would become visible first. If you are desperately hungry and simply need to fill your belly, this Golden Corral might be acceptable. If you want good food or a place to eat that has any standard of cleanliness, look elsewhere. But if you do go, please look for the guy leaning against the wall and the pickle on the floor. I'm sure they will both be there. And let me know which one has grown more fur on its face.

Food is good, staff friendly. what I want to hear from the CEO is why does this company throw out food in the dumpster every night? this is deplorable when some Homeless Shelters could use food to feed people. Certainly, Managers can make arrangements with Shelters to serve people that are in need!
